Ayer estrené un nuevo servicio de Google Calendar, que te permite poner calendarios “embedded” en tu página web, así que decidí agregar todos los eventos que me han mandado o conseguido en un calendario para “VenExpats”… el resultado? finisimo! hasta la gente se puede suscribir, y pueden añadir eventos (si los autorizo!)… pueden verlo en: http://www.venexpats.com/ver/calendario_de_eventos_venexpat.html

Que curioso que el siguiente artículo que me decido a escribir tiene que ver con otro evento, esta vez en la costa oeste. Se trata de una exposición de fotografía del famoso fotógrafo venezolano Alexander Apostol, que comenzó el 21 de septiembre y dura hasta el 17 de diciembre. La exposición está ubicada en la sala LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions), ubicada en Hollywood, CA. A continución les coloco un extracto de la introducción de la página de la expo, y la información de contacto:

LACE, in partnership with the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) at Harvard University, is proud to present an exhibition of recent photographs and video by Venezuelan artist Alexander Apóstol. The exhibition, curated by Bill Kelley, Jr., features two large-scale photographic series-Residente Pulido and Residente Pulido, Ranchos-as well as new video work. The exhibition will premiere at LACE in September 2006 and run through December 2006. The exhibition will then travel to Harvard University under the sponsorship of the David Rockefeller Latino and Latin American Art Forum.
Bill Kelley, Jr. writes of Apóstols work: “In a post-identity world, where subjective memories and histories now take on a more important role, discussions around urbanism carry a gentrifying signpost while, ironically enough, investing the city with new political and discursive possibilities.” Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Apóstol contrasts the city’s cultural environment with some of the utopian ideals that have shaped its architecture in order to consider the connecting threads between place and time, history and actuality. As Apóstol re-appropriates, re-contextualizes, and sometimes even digitally manipulates images of Modernist edifices in a current state of dilapidation, he attempts to reconcile the ideological failings of the past with the socio-political and economic realities of the present. In a city like Los Angeles, where early 20th century urban planning now forces us into unique patterns of metropolitan life, this type of thoughtful investigation is a key process in understanding our local environment.

LACE’s ongoing Salon Series features artists’ talks, colloquiums, and other participatory activities to encourage cultural exchange between artists, curators, critics and our general public. In conjunction with Alexander Apóstol, LACE is planning Video Dialogs, a series of three responsive video screenings on 13 October, 17 November, and 1 December. All inspired by the exhibit, each video response will be organized by a different artist or curator.

Hace tiempo que no escribo, y la verdad es que he estado ocupado arreglando cuestiones técnicas con los módulos que tengo instalados.. cada día estoy más convencido que esto es un proceso que cambia continuamente, lo cual me divierte mucho… Por otro lado, he hecho contacto con muchisima gente que me escribe a sugerirme cosas o a felicitarme por el esfuerzo. Gracias a todos! Parte de esos contactos es con una amiga de Caracas, Patricia, que vive y trabaja en NYC y que también está muy involucrada con actividades y eventos venezolanos. Ella me mandó esta información que ya les pasé a todos los de mi lista de panas, pero decidí incluirla aquí de manera de que los visitantes también se enteren. Espero les interese!

100% VENEZUELA: VENEZUELAN FILM FESTIVAL

100% VENEZUELA will show 14 films from the South American oil-exporting country. Presented by NYU’s King Juan Carlos Center, Department of Spanish and Portuguese and Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Festival focuses on the violence that has characterized Venezuelan cinema through its history, exhibiting classic films from the 80’s and 90’s, and the most recent productions of Venezuelan filmography. 100% VENEZUELA wants to trace a history of violence in this very polemic Latin-American country. Solveig Hoogesteijn, Diego Risquez and Alfredo Anzola, among other important Venezuelan filmmakers, will attend the screenings and participate in a symposium. Este proyecto en realidad es una extensión de mi primer directorio de links de venezolanos en el exterior. Poco a poco me di cuenta que hay muchos venezolanos que están afuera que están haciendo cosas buenísimas, y realmente uno (o por lo menos yo) no había oido hablar de muchos de ellos. Claro, es lógico pensar que si uno está en el medio de, por ejemplo de la música, haya oido hablar de Arnaly Arriaga en Canada, o de Victor Hugo en el UK, pero lo más probable es que no. Así que he ido recolectando páginas de venezolanos, unos panas míos, otros que he conseguido online, en reportajes o entrevistas. El único criterio para incluirlos en mi directorio es que sean venezolanos (de nacimiento o crianza) y que residan en el exterior. Espero que a todo el resto de nosotros, los ex-pats venezolanos, nos sirva aunque sea para darnos cuenta las cosas tan arrechas que están haciendo otros como uno.  Quien sabe, quizás este proyecto se “despega” de Guachiman en un futuro, con su propio link…Â
